HOWTO Encrypt CD/DVDs in Ubuntu
Creating an encrypted CD/DVD in Ubuntu isn't difficult and the Linux Monitor weblog runs down how. All the shell lovers out there will be glad to know that the entire process is done through the terminal. Don't let that scare you off, new users. The tutorial is only four steps and you should have no problem. Although the tutorial is aimed at Ubuntu, you'd be able to successfully follow the tutorial on any distro. The tutorial demonstrates how to encrypt at 128 bits and 256 bits.

Give Ubuntu a speed boost
The XLNTsolution weblog has a whole stash of system tweaks they recommend to speed up Ubuntu Feisty Fawn.
Some of the tips include disabling IPv6, enabling parallel boot processes, reducing the load of the swap, and re-aliasing the localhost -- and that just scratches the surface. Some of the tweaks are pretty advanced, but a good chunk of them are quick, easy, and should produce a decent speed boost on any system. The tutorial is specificially written for Kubuntu, but most of the tweaks will work fine in Ubuntu and any other Linux distro
