IE 7

How to roll back to IE 6

If you want to uninstall IE 7 and go back to IE 6, here’s how:

Click "Start," and then click "Control Panel."
Click "Add or Remove Programs."
Check "Show Updates" at the top of the dialog box.

Scroll down the list and highlight the version of Internet Explorer 7 that you are running, and then click "Change/Remove." (If you are running Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview - March 20 or later, it is not necessary to check "Show Updates.")

If you get an error message saying you can't uninstall from the logged on user account, you may have to log off and log back on with a different account, or edit the registry to bypass the user account check:

Click Start Run.
In the Run box, type regedit and then press ENTER.
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer.
Right-click the Internet Explorer key, select New, and click DWORD value.
Type InstalledByUser as the name of the new value, and then press ENTER.

Now try the uninstallation again.

Recover from a corrupted registry

This article describes how to recover a Windows XP system that does not start because of corruption in the registry. This procedure does not guarantee full recovery of the system to a previous state; however, you should be able to recover data when you use this procedure.

Guided Help is available to help recover a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP from starting. You must be logged on to Windows by using a computer administrator account to install and to use this Guided Help.

What do you need at startup

This is Paul Collins (aka Pacman) list of system startup entries. Startup entries are registry entries that tell Windows which programs to start upon system startup. This alphabetical listing comes with its own "user guide".

"Y" - Normally leave to run at start-up
"N" - Not required - infrequently used tasks
"U" - User's choice - depends whether a user deems it necessary
"X" - Definitely not required - viruses, spyware, adware and "resource hogs"
"?" - Unknown
